The story of Alice in Wonderland is, of course, different from how it was in Once Upon a Time. Changed to involve Cora, Jefferson losing his head, quite literally, but not many others are featured in this story. So where does that leave the poor Dormouse or March Hare that were friends with the Hatter in the classic story?

Before the Curse

The Dormouse is a special case indeed. He has been through two curses. One by Cora when she first reached Wonderland. He was originally quite the alert, energetic guard type with the old Queen and King. Yes, things were originally quite good with everyone in Wonderland. His name truly was originally Frederick. He would be awake more often than asleep, and seeming to be smarter than he was after Cora had arrived. He was all around happy.

That being said, Cora had arrived and taken over the kingdom. We know that much. We know that everything changed at that point. Hell, we know that Jefferson was very likely in the kingdom before Cora even got there. What we don't know is the other sides of the story. When Cora arrived, there were people that needed to be taught a lesson. Frederick was one of them. He was far too, well, a hindrance to her and her plan to keep around. So she cursed him. The plan was simply to make him more dormant, take away his keen senses, reaction time as well. It just happened to be a happy bonus that one simple slip up led to him becoming a dormouse as well. A happy mistake to the new Red Queen, of course.

Before the drowsiness and effects of the curse could truly begin to affect him, he had run to find somewhere to hide away from Cora. Never knowing that she knew where he was at all times. She just never did anything because. Hey. He's a dormouse. He's a lethargic dormouse who happened to enjoy the taste of tea. Because yes, that was Fredericks favorite drink since forever. So that fun fact is out of the way now. However, he was there when Jefferson had arrived with Regina, when he was abandoned by the Evil Queen, and most importantly, when he was beheaded. He was just a bystander at the time. What else could he be?

It was a miracle he had stayed awake during the entire explanation of what was happening before Jefferson got his body back, and followed him to watch him. Maybe if he left this world there could be a way out of Wonderland, a way back to being himself, perhaps. An added bonus for the still incredibly lethargic small dormouse was that those hats that drove Jefferson mad were incredibly comfortable. With everything that had happened in his life, he felt like some strange connection to the Mad man. Perhaps the fact they had both been affected by the Evil Queen's mother.

During && After the Curse

Finally arrived the day of the curse. Frederick was somehow included, albeit accidentally, in the curse and brought to Storybrooke. He held no memory beyond what was implanted into his mind by the Evil Queen, but he was no longer a mouse. Similar to what had happened to Gus-Gus from Cinderellas part of the Enchanted Forest. The only difference, his lethargy and the primary part of the curse that had been cast on him by Regina's mother remained. They simply were lessened just slightly enough for him to be part of life.

His story as Frederick Daniel Ormus was that of a simple, tired tea shop owner. 6PM was the name of the store, 6PM being the typical tea time. He would notice what was going on, despite how he would always seem to be dozing off. That was his problem in Storybrooke. He never had the pleasure of meeting Emma, though had met Paige. The resemblance between her and Jefferson, though he was unable to tell it was Jefferson, was enough to make him have that vague idea of remembrance. She would show up, not often, but enough, and once the curse was broken, that had not ended, either.

When he remembered who he was, his personality did not truly change much at all. He simply remembered the lifestyle back in Wonderland, what Cora had done, everything that had happened. It had become more an issue of wanting to break that final curse. He had heard when Cora had reappeared in town as well, not knowing where to find her, but knowing she was there.

Unfortunately, his curse was not one that could be broken by the one who cursed him dying. So for now, he is stuck as he was cursed. Aware, but lethargic.
